Leases are the engines that drive the value of commercial real estate. Keeping this concept at the forefront, this course explores all pertinent aspects involving the valuation and costs of commercial leasehold interest from the user’s perspective. Common terminology involving lease preparation will be defined, and negotiation tactics will be discussed. Participants will also learn strategies necessary to counsel clients on the critical decisions of leasing versus owning, building versus buying, as well as alternative strategies to a convenational lease. Examples of lease options will be addressed through several real-world case studies.

The General Services Administration (GSA) will be attending the Kansas Chapter CCIM Luncheon
on September 9, 2010 to share information about the agency, the leased portfolio, and to educate
members on how to do business with the GSA. The team will also briefly touch on the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Green Leasing, and GSA’s National Broker Contract.
The team intends to deliver a 20 minute presentation and will be available to answer questions.
